Last week we continued reading and writing free verse poetry. As we read poems we thought about how the poetry made us feel and what it made us think about. We shared descriptive and sensory words that we could use in our poetry. All week we read books relating to Earth Day. On Thursday we spent the morning exploring Chehalem Ridge Nature Park. We made a wagon wheel map, hiked and focused on what we smelled and felt. At the lookout we sketched pictures of the furthest thing we could see in the distance and something we could see closeup using a magnifier. We then wrote words to describe these things. On Friday we celebrated Earth Day by making posters. Maddie's mom, Morgan came to talk about Earth Day and the importance of picking up even the smallest micro-trash. She brought grabbers and helped us pick up lots of bits of tiny trash on our playground.
Second graders took a mid-unit assessment. They worked on word problems involving 2-digit addition and subtraction. Second graders can complete any homework through lesson 17. First graders used a variety of objects as units of measurement (toothpicks, paperclips, unifix cubes, and centimeter cubes) to determine the length of various classroom materials. First graders can complete all homework through module 3, lesson 8.
This Friday is Spirit Day - Theme - Dress like Rick (our P.E. teacher)
